When I was a little girl, my older brother had a train set and he would never let me play with. I was fascinated by trains, especially the coal car and caboose. Don’t see coal cars here in Chicago anymore.
That’s because all those “nasty” coal-burning power plants were shut down…and we were caught by the tail by the gas and electric companies! 🙂 The big ones ae still running….well outside of town!
lol. I lived in Nashville TN for a few years and long time residents told me the air used to be thick with smoke from people burning coal. There is cause and effect with everything we use.
Don’t think I haven’t thought about it more than once over the years. But I’ve talked myself out it. Just like I talked myself out of buying a log cabin set.
Those log cabin sets—-the originals of real wood—are very valuable now. So what would it hurt for a circle of track and a choo-choo? Some people would call that a “pizza” layout….gonna build one myself! 🙂 In fact, a very simple train layout like that—I reposted here, earlier this week,,,it’s in my Archives under “layout”, or such-like!
TOO LATE!!! It’s time for your second childhood….think of it as an advance of mature, advanced-thinking womanhood! Doesn’t cost THAT MUCH….for a simple set….? 😀
I’m looking now at 2 possible rooms where I can set up a train and add a little log cabin. They’ve got a Lionel Pennsylvania train set at the Pottery Barn for under $300. That’s less then the cost of a lens for my camera.
GOOD PIC…..BUT TRY….DIRTY COVERED HOPPER CARS!

I don’t think I’ve seen any of those come across these tracks, but I’ll keep an eye out.
